Lucia V. Valdez (Lucy) 64, returned to her heavenly home on December 20,  2016 after a valiant battle with cancer. Her devotion to family and God  supported her during her struggle.  Lucy was born in Crystal City, TX, moved to San Antonio in 1966, graduated from  Jefferson High School and in 2014 retired from the State of Texas.    Lucy is survived by her son, Arturo Jaime Gámez, her father, Arturo  Valdez and sister, Corina Valdez Morales; nieces, Kristin Martinez (Hector),    Amanda Chamberlain, nephew, Terence Morales; grandnieces and nephews  Brianna and Hector Martinez, Justin and Randal Chamberlain, and Kaylee  Morales; and her dearest friend Connie Peche.  Lucy is preceded in death by   her mother, Elvira Valdez and brother, Arturo Valdez.     SERVICES: Rosary and Mass  10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Monday, January 2nd at St. John Berchmans Catholic  Church, 1147 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78226.  Reception to follow.  The  family has scheduled a private interment at a later date.    A special thanks to the staff at CHRISTUS Sister Mary Hospice and ABODE Home   for the loving care they gave Lucy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations  to Abode Home, PO Box 47640, SA, TX,  www.abodehome.org
