During World War 11, from 1941-1943, as a young child, Tomas survived the Japanese invasion, and the eventual American liberation, of his beloved Island of Guam. His experiences contributed to his eventual decision to serve in the United States military.
In 1957, Tomas enlisted in the United States Air Force as Airman First Class, departing his island home for the first time. His eventual 20 plus years of service in defense of our nation spanned the globe from various military installations in the United States to overseas locales such as French Morocco, North Africa to Labrador, Canada. In August 1972, he honorably retired as Staff Sergeant from the Transportation Squadron from F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Over the next 8 years he continued to serve his communities first as an automotive mechanic in the private sector on Guam, then continuing within the Government of Guam, and finally in 1980-1984, he served as an Aircraft Refueler with Lockheed Martin in San Jose, California. In 1984, he continued as the primary caregiver of his wife, eventually relocating and finally settling in San Antonio, Texas in August 2000.
Tomas enjoyed traveling, baseball, volleyball, game shows, slot machines, bowling, dancing and action movies. He was a devoted family man, later serving as primary caregiver to his beloved wife, Rita; steadfast, loving parent and counselor to his children; and caring grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
With a big, loving heart, he easily assumed the role of father-figure to many other family members and friends.
