Thomas Anderson McCoy, Jr., beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and decorated veteran, passed away on September 13, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 79. He was born on May 15, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan.
A proud and devoted serviceman, Thomas served his country with honor and distinction. He dedicated 12 years to the United States Marine Corps and 9 years to the United States Navy. A Vietnam War veteran, he earned numerous military accolades during his career, including the Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Combat Action Ribbon, two Good Conduct Medals, two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Civic Action Medal, Vietnam Cross, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Following his military service, Thomas continued to pursue his passion for aviation, working as an aircraft mechanic for Boeing. He held an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license and was respected for his skill, discipline, and dedication to his craft.
Family was at the heart of Thomas’s life. He is survived by his three sons, Thomas McCoy III, Shaun McCoy, and Anthony McCoy; his grandchildren, Thomas McCoy IV, Judah McCoy, and Olivia McCoy; his great-grandchildren, Maelynn McCoy and Vayda McCoy; and the Mother of his children, Susan McCoy. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Havard Smith, who shared in his life’s journey.
Thomas will be remembered for his unwavering service to his country, his love for his family, and the legacy of strength and love he leaves behind.
A service with full military honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, on November 7, 2025, at 1:15 p.m. Family, friends, and fellow service members are invited to honor his life and legacy.
