Teresa Akers

Teresa Akers, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, was born on September 23, 1955, and left us on December 27, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas.

Teresa was the daughter of Paul and Kathleen Winkler, who preceded her in death, along with her son, Sean. She is deeply loved and missed by her husband, Charles; her son, Matthew; and her cherished grandchildren, Connor and Abigail. Also mourning her brother, Paul Winkler of Texas; and her many nieces and nephews - Angela, Devyn, Kaylan, Kobe, Little Paul, Ryan, Reece, Riley, Isaiah, James and Christopher - whom she supported wholeheartedly throughout their lives.

A proud graduate of Danville high School and Eastern Illinois University, Teresa dedicated 25 years to teaching in SAISD. She touched countless lives with her warmth, patience, and commitment to her students. Even after retiring in 2017, she remained close with many of her fellow educators, a reflection of the deep connections she built throughout her career.

Teresa lived her life guided by her faith and her personal motto, "Lead with compassion." She was a strong, steady force in our family - always encouraging, always present, and always ready to show up for school events, sporting events, and every milestone in the lives of those she loved.

Her faith found a home at St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. One of her greatest callings was visiting the hospital to pray with those in need. She always chose the second floor, where patients were often facing the hardest battles, offering them comfort, prayer, the Eucharist with a gentle, unwavering heart.

Outside of her ministry and family life, Teresa found joy in swimming, practicing yoga, and simply being surrounded by the people she loved most. Her strength, compassion, and devotion will continue to guide us, just as she always did.
