Sandra Luz Cruz

June 10, 1958 — July 1, 2023

San Antonio

We just lost our beloved mother, Sandra Luz Cruz on Saturday,  July 1, 2023 at the age of 65. Our mom fought an illness, but it never stopped her from living her best life. She passed peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren. The world has lost a sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. We all will miss her more than words can ever say.

Our mom was born in Brownsville, TX on June 10, 1958 but grew up in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, México, where she learned a lot from her father Arturo Rodriguez.  From being the volleyball captain of the year, black belt in Tae Kwon Do, she was in competitive jump roping, athleticism, mathematician and even Queen of the Spring at La Preparatoria de la Secundaria Técnica Tamaulipas "Lázaro Cardenas" where she got her diploma for private accounting. After graduating early at the age of 15 at the top of her class, she moved to Houston, TX. There she was met with a language barrier and didn't know anyone. And still she managed to become an independent entrepreneur that would start of by selling her own handmade paper mache flowers, while working her way to the police academy. Where she was rapidly promoted to a higher rank and becoming a private investigator at a young age.

Soon after she started her family while continuing working in the field that she was passionate about. She always cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She leaves behind many memories she created with her family and friends. She shared her love by catering traditional Mexican cuisine, while hosting frequent themed parties and would invite everyone she knew and their friends.

Throughout her life she has helped many people in need, which led her to join LULAC where she became a long time member, Sargeant of Arms, received the LULAC Women of the Year Award in 2013 and became a Democrat precinct chair officer. LULAC was a special place that was near and dear to her heart.

Sandra was the daughter of her deceased parents Arturo Rodriguez and Maria del Pilar Rodriguez.  She is survived by her siblings: Juana, Galdina, Pilar, Porfirio, Armando and Martha; Children: Sandra (Andres), Oscar (Laura), Rosa (Eric), Juana (Kevin), Vanessa, Omar (Janet), Daisy (David), and Kevin (Vanessa); grandchildren: Felipe, Carlos, Juan, Lleshua, Yonathan, Getsemany, Nazareth, Robert, Betiediana, Solangel, Vidaluna, Summer, Wade, Clarity, Ana, Itzel, Omar, Lily, William, Liam and Isabella; great grandchildren: Genaro, Abraham, Christopher, Jesse, Isaac and Julian.

Sandra was known for being bold, fearless and foremost loving! She was more than a friend to everyone,  a lot of people would identify with her as a sister or a mother. She loved traveling and visiting new places, her favorite place was on the road.
