Rodney Holt Shelton, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on February 15, 2026, following a medical issue in the care of his medical team in San Antonio, Texas.
Born on June 1, 1951, in Riverside, California, Rodney's life was a tapestry woven with love, creativity, and immeasurable spirit.
An Army veteran, Rodney served his country with pride and dedication, values that he carried into his everyday life. He was the anchor of his family, a figure of strength and wisdom whose stories and warmth left a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rodney's passions were as diverse as his talents. He was a lifelong hunter and fisherman, reveling in the tranquil beauty of nature. Whether spending hours in the serenity of the great outdoors or capturing the world through his art, which was filled with stunning paintings that reflected both his talent and his love for life, Rodney embraced every moment with enthusiasm.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol Shelton, who shared his journey with unwavering devotion. Together, they built a beautiful family, filled with countless cherished memories. Their sons, William (Sierra), and Michael (Samantha), continue to carry forward his legacy, embodying the kindness and passion that Rodney instilled in them.
Rodney was also a proud grandfather to Corrinne, Jackie, and Camille, who brought him immense joy and laughter. His heart was further filled with love for his beloved nephews, Nicholas and Edward “Scotty” Brabham, and his dear sister-in-law, Emma Brabham. He is mourned by numerous family members and friends who will hold onto his memory, ensuring that his spirit remains alive in their hearts.
Rodney was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Orville and Harriett Shelton, and his brother, Richard Shelton, who welcomed him into eternal peace.
A funeral service to honor Rodney's remarkable life will be held on March 12, 2026, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery , Shelter #2, in San Antonio, Texas. The ceremony will begin at 10:15 AM, and loved ones will gather to celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, artistry, and the indomitable spirit of a man who will never be forgotten.
