Robert Wayne Vaughan, 65, left this world suddenly, but peacefully, on Friday, June 26, 2026. He was born on February 24, 1961 in Corpus Christi, Texas to James Doyle and Bonnie Lou Vaughan. He was the sixth of eight children.
Wayne could do it all. Whether it was playing baseball in Little League or basketball in middle school; he had great physical skills. Wayne also possessed a quick wit and sharp mind; playing chess, solving problems, or navigating people and circumstances, his brilliant mind never failed him. Anything Wayne put his mind to, he would readily accomplish. Wayne also had a gentle spirit and kind heart that matched his charismatic personality greatly. He was an avid fisherman, boat racer, oil-field worker, crane operator, entrepreneur, and self-made man. But, in his later years, his favorite titles were Father, Brother, Son, and Grandpa. He stayed close to his family and kept his character to the end.
Wayne leaves behind him an indelible impression in the lives of those who knew him.
He was welcomed in heaven by his Father, James Doyle, Brother Billy Vaughan, who he missed dearly, and Sister Barbara Prudom.
Wayne will be deeply missed by his mother, Bonnie; two beautiful children, Robert and Sadie, three grandchildren, Zayne, Donovan, Xavier; brothers, Jimmy, Kenneth, and Johnny, all of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Jeannie (Richard) Andrews of Kerrville, TX and Sharon (Michael) Balser of Canyon Lake, TX. He will also be remembered in the hearts of numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Visitation with family is on Wednesday, July 1st at 9am with a celebration of Wayne’s life to follow at 10am at Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels on Judson Rd. The family will be meeting at 2:30pm in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church in Lampasas, TX to lead the procession to School Creek Cemetery in Lampasas.
The family requests those in attendance to wear Wayne’s favorite sport team, San Antonio Spurs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Weidner Road Baptist Church or to UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486 or MDAnderson.org/Gifts.
