Following a short battle with liver cancer, Raul "Roy" Paniagua was called Home on 09/10/2026.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Dolores Paniagua, Sister Norma Morales, Son Jason Paniagua, and Grandchild, JJ Paniagua.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Trinidad and Magdalena Paniagua, Brother, Richard Paniagua, and Brother, Robert Paniagua.

Roy was featured in many award-winning songs and albums. He leaves behind a rich music legacy. He played with the likes of the Latin Breed, the Royal Jesters, Sunny Ozuna, Jimmy Edwards, Jean LeGrand, Campañas De America Mariachi. Little Joe y La Familia, Flaco Jiménez, Freddy Fender, Johnny Rodriguez, Ray Benson, The Texas Tornados and many others.
His studio work as a bass player and as a vocalist is embedded in many classic hits recorded at the iconic Manny Guerra Studios. He was also an amazing Radio Personality for KEDA Radio Jalapeño, Production Manager, Commercial Writer, Voice Talent, and Master of Ceremonies.

Roy started learning music at the age of 5. By the age of 11, he had formed his 1st band playing Beatles music. In high school, he played with Changes and Stone Image, along with other bands. He began his radio career in 1971 working at KONO behind the scenes. He became an On-Air personality for KUKU around the same time. In 1972, he started working for KEDA Radio off and on until 2026. As a KEDA Air Personality, he was a part of ´The Morning Breakfast Taco Show´ with Hector Martínez and Mickey ´La Hormiga'. The show received consistent 5.0+ ratings without subscribing to a ratings company.

In 1974, he started playing with legendary Jimmy Edwards. That was the first time he played on the road.
In the 80's, he played with Essence, a band of master musicians, for the San Antonio Spurs known as THE SOUND OF THE SPURS.
In 1987, he worked at Capitol Records as a Promotions Manager of the Tejano/International Division. He did radio tours with artists such as Selena, Emilio Navaira, Mazz, La Mafia, Vicki Carr and many others.

After life on the road, he played local bands around San Antonio, including the Five Star Band, Mid-Life Crisis, Square 1, performed with Ruben V, and played with Alan Bush and William Caisse as the Power Trio known as RAW.

A private funeral ceremony will be held for family and close personal friends.

A Celebration of Life, open to everyone, will be held on Tuesday, September 29th with a service starting at 6:00 PM, with a Music Celebration to follow. It will be at the VFW 9186 Post, located at 650 VFW Blvd, San Antonio TX, 78223.
