Raul Ortega-Gonzalez, age 28, passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021, after a strong 7 year battle with leukemia.
Raúl was born on July 25th, 1993 in San Antonio, Texas. He was a very social and studious man. He loved attending school at Alamo Heights, which he graduated from. He later attended Graduate School at UTSA where he was working towards completing a Masters of Business Administration.
Growing up, he enjoyed spending time with his family in Mexico over Summer and Winter breaks. He loved playing basketball with his friends in his free time. He Joined a few basketball leagues over the years but switched his time and passion into weightlifting as the years went on. He developed a love for running - he would go running almost daily, and even ran a few 5 and 10k’s. He also enjoyed collecting shoes. Over the years he accumulated over 50 pairs of shoes, including his favorite, Air Jordan's.
In 2014 he was diagnosed with leukemia, at the age of 21. He went into remission two times. His little brother helped him go into his second remission with a stem cell transplant, but he still battled the side effects, though he never gave up. He continued living a very positive life, hoping the best for the future. In July, the cancer came back. He battled in the hospital for over a month. God called him home on Friday, August 13th, 2021 at 1:25 PM in the presence of his mother Isabel, brother Saúl, and sister Estefany. He was ready, he had earned his wings.
