Pedro (Pete) C. Bautista, Sr., man of remarkable determination and unwavering dedication, sadly passed away on January 8, 2024, in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas. Born on October 3, 1949, in the heart of San Antonio, Pedro would go on to leave an indelible mark the community he loved.
From humble beginnings as a janitor at the San Antonio Airport, Pedro embarked on a remarkable journey that would ultimately lead him to manage events at the prestigious Hemisphere Arena and Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center working for the City of San Antonio. His ascent up the professional ladder was a testament to his work ethic perseverance and commitment to excellence. Pedro was a proud member of the graduating class of 1969 at Sidney B. Lanier High School. Pedro had tremendous pride for being from the West Side of San Antonio, as he attended elementary schools in the neighborhood.
Beyond his career achievements, Pedro possessed an unwavering passion for sports. A fervent supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and Texas Longhorns, he eagerly followed their every triumph and setback. His enthusiasm for sports served as a unifying force among family and friends alike.
One of Pedro's proudest accomplishments was being a beloved husband to his high school sweetheart, Maria Luisa G. Bautista. Their love story blossomed over 57 beautiful years, filled with shared memories and unwavering support. Their enduring bond was set to reach new heights on April 22 when they would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary - a testament to their enduring commitment and love.
As a father, Pedro took immense pride in his children's accomplishment. Both of his sons' decision to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. He eagerly proclaimed himself an "Air Force Dad," joyfully sharing this badge of honor with anyone who would lend an ear. His daughters were both college graduates. Christina from the University of Texas San Antonio, and Margie from the University of the Incarnate Word.
In addition to leaving behind a lasting legacy, Pedro cherished the presence of his surviving family. Maria Luisa G. Bautista, his loving wife, will forever hold their memories close to her heart. His son, Paul G. Bautista, daughter Christina Bautista, and daughter Margie Bautista will remember him as a guiding light and a provider of unwavering love and support.
Pedro's impact extended beyond human relations as he shared his life with beloved pets who provided companionship and solace. Pinga, Tiger, and Blacky will carry the memory of Pedro's kindness and affection with them always.
Pedro is preceded in death by his parents Antonio M. and Maria Bautista; son, Pete Bautista Jr. and grandson Paul Antonio Bautista Jr.
He survived Polio as a young child, and throughout his life, Pedro C. Bautista overcame the illn ess and exemplified the virtues of hard work, resilience, and devotion to family. His presence in this world brought joy to many hearts, making him deeply cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him.
Although he may no longer be physically with us, Pedro's spirit will continue to inspire all who were touched by his kindness and determination. We honor his memory with gratitude for the legacy he leaves behind.
