To know Nancy was to know true selflessness.
Nancy Hernandez, born September 14, 1977, in San Antonio, Texas, went to be with the Lord on July 28, 2026. To know Nancy was to know true selflessness. She was always willing to help her family and friends in any way she could, never hesitating to put others before herself. Her incredible sense of humor, infectious smile, and joyous personality could brighten any room, and she had a remarkable gift for making everyone laugh.
Nancy loved spending time with her beautiful family and cheering on her favorite team, the 49ers. She enjoyed traveling, and especially cherished her trips to Las Vegas, where she loved playing the slot machines. Above all, Nancy was an incredibly supportive mother to her loving son, Nehemiah Hernandez. He was the center of her world, and her greatest priority in life was raising him to be respectful and caring—a goal she achieved with immense success.
She made a lasting impact on her entire family and leaves behind a void that will never be filled. Nancy was the backbone of her family, a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, partner, sister‑in‑law, and aunt—someone everyone could always count on. Her cooking was legendary within the family, and her lasagnas, enchiladas, and famous Big Red cakes will be dearly missed.
Nancy is survived by her son, Nehemiah Hernandez (Melany); her partner, George Quintanilla; her mother, Sanjuana Hernandez; and her brothers, Manuel Hernandez (Mary Ann) and Gilbert Hernandez (Kelly). She is also survived by her nephews Roger Garza (Cheria), Joshua Garza, Manuel Hernandez (Margarita), Gilbert Hernandez, Emmanuel Hernandez, Gilbert Hernandez III, and Arturo Zepeda; her nieces Elizabeth Hernandez (Nathanial), Jasmine Hernandez, Samantha Hernandez, Delilah Hernandez, and Ashley Cerros, her step-children, Abigail Quintanilla, Shelby Quintanilla, Joe Quintanilla, and Leslie Quintanilla; her step-grandchildren, Emmery Ibarra, and Camila Camacho, and her great‑nephews and great‑nieces Joshua Garza, Miracle Garza, Jacob Garza, Mykah Garza, Syah Garza, Zekhi Garza, Leo Hernandez, Liam Hernandez, Nathanial Mendoza, and Maliah Mendoza. As well as countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
There will truly never be another person like her—irreplaceable and one of a kind.
She is preceded in death by her father, Gilberto Hernandez; her sister, Sanjuanita Garza; and her nephew, Robert Garza.
Nancy will be missed beyond measure. There will truly never be another person like her—irreplaceable and one of a kind.
Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Services will be held Friday, August 7, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Puente and Sons Funeral Chapel, with a reception to follow at 242 Shrine Avenue.
