Joe was born on August 21, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, to Joe J. Zavala and Florence Delgado. He dedicated 38 years of service as a San Antonio Police Officer. He also proudly served his country in both the United States Air Force Reserves and the United States Army Reserves, retiring as a Master Sergeant (E-7),
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Diana Zavala; his four children, Jennifer Delgado (Raul Delgado), Joe J. Zavala III (Aisha Zavala), Jonathan Zavala, and Stephanie Zavala; six grandchildren, Nevaeh Zavala, Dillon Delgado, Gavin Delgado, Peyton Delgado, Joe J. Zavala IV, and Lincoln Zavala; his brother, Jeffrey Zavala (Magda Zavala); and his sister, Lacey (Sandra) McCloud.
