Jose G. Gonzalez passed away on September 20, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 87. He was born on August 31, 1939, in Falfurrias, Texas, and will be remembered as a wonderful and loving father whose steady presence meant so much to those who knew and loved him.

Jose found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He was a big outdoor person who loved spending time outside, and he especially enjoyed fixing cars and watching western movies. He was also rarely without his beloved dog, Mia, by his side, a faithful companion who brought him comfort and happiness.

Above all, Jose will be remembered for the love he gave his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Idolina Gonzalez, and by his daughters, Rebecca Gonzalez, Raquel Gonzalez, and Jo Ann Gonzalez. He also leaves behind his sister, Hortencia Gonzalez, whose bond with him remained an important part of his life.

His memory will continue through the younger generations of his family, including his grandchildren, Robert Joseph Gonzalez (Hayley Gonzalez), Paul J. Hopson, Jack Hopson, and John Hopson, as well as his great-grandchild, Ethan Gonzalez. Each of them carries forward a part of his legacy and the love he shared so freely.

Jose was preceded in death by his father, Francisco M. Gonzalez, his mother, Victoria Galvan, and several brothers and sisters. Their memory remained a lasting part of his life, and now he rests with those who went before him.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Jose during visitation on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at South - Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels, 3520 S Flores St, San Antonio, TX 78204. A Rosary will be held that same evening at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Visitation with family will take place on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at South - Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels, followed by burial at 1:45 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209.

Jose G. Gonzalez leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and quiet joys. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the blessing of sharing in his life.
