John Paul Kay

May 9, 1958 — December 26, 2021

John Paul Kay (JP) 63, passed away on 26 December 2021 following his battle with cancer. JP was born on 9 May 1958 in Big Spring, TX to Sovoy and Beverly Kay. As a child he suffered from severe asthma limiting his ability to enjoy his early years but made up for it later in life. He attended MacArthur High School but left before graduating to move to Austin, TX where he eventually earned his GED. JP loved playing golf; especially with his Dad, and always carried a club and handful of golf balls in his car just in case he wanted to “hit a few.” He enjoyed going on road-trips especially to Austin, El Paso and Big Spring visiting family and friends and at times would take off “just for the heck of it.” JP was a free spirit, never wanting to be limited or constrained. Despite being in hospice it was his desire to live out his final days in his childhood home. And so, he chose release from hospice to go to his home and allow his final wish to come true. JP is predeceased by his father and stepmother, Sovoy and Donna Kay, mother, Beverly Kay, maternal grandparents, Doyle and Mildred Vaughn, paternal grandmother, Dee Scarborough, Delbert Vaughn and wife Carolyn, and stepbrother, Jerry Don Thomas. He is survived by his sister, Paula Kay (Sharon Garcia), stepsister, Gina Lochausen (Matt), numerous cousins, and his beloved kitty Sammy. Special thanks to the wonderful care provided by Vitas hospice and friends who stepped in to help JP throughout his final days. A graveside service will be held at Trinity Memorial Cemetery in Big Spring, TX. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice.
