John Frainey passed away on August 15, 2025, after an extended illness. He was born on October 13, 1941, in Portland, Oregon, and was the youngest child of John I and Beatrice (McHale) Frainey.

John joined the National Guard on his 18th birthday, and later served in the Army Signal Battalion in Germany, Korea, and was a Vietnam War veteran.

After leaving the service, John was briefly a police officer in Washington DC and later relocated to Massachusetts.

John and his wife of nearly 50 years, Judith (Fillion), raised their blended family in Portland, Oregon. He was a dedicated employee of Tri-Met as a bus driver, and later a light rail operator, controller, and supervisor.

He was an avid bowler and competed for years until he and Judy relocated to San Antonio, Texas, in 2020. He was also an active grandparent to his grandchildren

He is survived by his wife Judith, sons John L Frainey and James Griffin, daughters , Cheryl (Griffin) Najera (Jesse Najera), Cathleen Frainey (Patrick Tipton), Sister Beatrice Burk, Sister in law Ann Frainey, five grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers Thomas Frainey and Philip Frainey.
