James “Jim” William Johnson, Jr. passed away on June 14th, 2025, in San Antonio, TX, surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 78.

Jim was born on December 16, 1946, in Nürnberg, Germany, and spent his early years around the world in a military family before graduating from Frankfurt American High School in 1965. Jim served in the U.S. Army before honorably discharging and transitioning to a 45-year career in the U.S. Civil Service.

Jim was a man of many interests and passions, including history, reading, art, music, travel, and experiencing all that the different cultures of the world could offer, especially the German heritage and family that he was very proud of. While working in Germany, Jim would meet a beautiful woman named Monika whom he would later share and raise children with. Jim was able to spark the interest and share the joy of travel with his sons throughout their childhood as well as into adulthood with two specific recent trips to Germany in 2018 and Greece in 2022.

Jim was a humble and caring man, who always put the needs and wants of others before his own and lived by the mantra of “family first, always”. He was a proud father to Julian and Kevin, and an especially proud and cherished grandfather to Kason, Kaia, and Kyra, whom he all loved dearly.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James (1976) and Marianne (1981), his cousin Michael (2023), and his nephew Brian (2017).

The cherished family left behind include his sons; Kevin and Julian, their brother Andre, his ex-wife Monika, his grandchildren; Kason, Kaia, and Kyra, his sister Rose Marie, his brother Bob, his uncle Alfred, and the families of all including Abbie, Amanda, Kelsea, Irene, Tracey, Jake, Katy, Sophie, Connor, Caleb, Sydnie, Cody, and Kylie.

Jim will be remembered for his sharp and curious mind as well as well as his love and unwavering dedication to his family. He was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him, and he will be dearly missed.
