James "Jim" Keenan (or “Alamo Jim” as he referred to himself, since he was born on Alamo Day), died on March 20, 2026, at the age of 83.
A man characterized by his strength of character, sharp mind, and unwavering faith, Jim lived a life that was as authentic as it was a testament to his convictions.
Born on March 6, 1943, in the Bronx, New York, Jim was the son of Charles B. Keenan and Evelyn Sophia Christman and the younger brother of Charles Jr (deceased). He is survived by his nephews Tom, Benjamin and John.
Jim understood the value of resilience, loyalty, and standing his ground. The Bronx gave him his foundational grit; a trait he carried with him through every chapter of his life.
Jim attended the University of Notre Dame, earning his bachelor’s degree in political science in 1965. Harboring a deep, abiding love for his country, he then served in the United States Navy for five years—including in Vietnam—with profound patriotism and a sense of duty.
Jim was defined by his spirit and his core convictions. He advocated fiercely for the family, firmly believing it to be the most important and essential element of society. He understood that a strong nation and a meaningful life both begin at home and radiate outward.
Jim was not a man of mere words; he was a man of action, and service to the truth. He devoted most of his professional life to not-for-profit institutions, including Chaucer Study Center in Houston, Featherock Conference Center in Schulenburg, Texas, and Montevista Study Center in San Antonio.
A longtime member of Opus Dei he was a man of deep faith who tried to live his Christian life in everything he did.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2026, 7:00 - 10:00 pm (Central time), at Montevista Study Center (418 Happy Trail, Shavano Park, 78231).

In lieu of flowers, you can honor his memory by donating to Featherock Conference Center (Schulenburg, TX) and its formational activities, a project very close to his heart, to which he devoted his energies for many years.
