Gwendolyn Garvin Seideman Smith was born in San Antonio, TX December 18th, 1952, Gwendolyn Garvin Smith passed away December 20, 2015. Gwen is preceded in death by her parents Catherine Jarrett (Bryan) and Sonny Seideman as well as her Aunt, Jeanette Trembley (Bryan).
She is survived by her husband Tod Smith; brothers Ernest Scott Seideman (and wife, Julie); West Paul Seideman (and wife, Susan); uncle Cantrell Eben “CE” Bryan (and wife, Kathleen); and her nieces Allison Elizabeth Queener (and husband, Russell); Haley Morgan Martin (and husband, Brett).
Gwen enjoyed diverse careers, beginning as a registered nurse in Galveston, TX. In 1980 she graduated from the University of Texas School of Law and practiced family law in Austin, TX. She then moved to Marathon and Alpine, TX where she earned her teaching certification at Sul Ross University and began to teach in Fort Davis, TX. After moving to Helotes, Gwen continued teaching history at W.H. Taft High School then at Coke R. Stevenson Middle School for Northside ISD. She loved passing on knowledge to her students and opening their eyes to the world around them.
Gwen’s solace was West Texas. She loved the wide-open spaces, studying the history, and romanticizing about various movies made there. Her favorite movie set filmed in the area was Giant. She will be remembered for her quick wit, great sense of humor, and way of making those around her feel special. No matter the circumstances, Gwen always made it through any situation with grace and laughter. Memories of her extraordinary life will dwell with those who loved her for all their days.
A private celebration of Gwen’s life for family, friends and coworkers will be held at the Reppold House on 1605 San Jacinto Street in Castroville, TX 78009 at 1 PM Saturday, January 9, 2016.
