Guadalupe Berrones Rodriguez, 90, passed away Wednesday, 24 December 2025 in San Antonio, Texas. She was surrounded by her three oldest children and their respective spouses. She passed away peacefully in her own home consistent with her wishes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hector G. Rodriguez and her mother, Antonia Alcorta and father, Nieves Berrones and her child lost in childbirth (Lupita).
She is survived by her children Dr. Hector B. Rodriguez, MD, daughter Juanita R. Swope and her husband Jeffrey A. Swope, Emilia R. Segura and her husband Michael Anthony Segura, Jose B. Rodriguez and his husband Bobby Jack Stone, Sandra R. McConnell and her husband Matthew S. McConnell, Ricardo B. Rodriguez, Ruben B. Rodriguez and his wife Victoria G. Rodriguez. She is also survived by her grandchildren Angelica E. Segura, Gabriela M. Segura Molinet and her husband Julien Segura Molinet, Sara I. Mendez, Xochi I. Mendez (Yasmin as she was known to her grandmother), Alice H. Rodriguez, Mariana G. Rodriguez, Ruben J. Rodriguez and Aiden C. Rodriguez as well as beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She had a special place in her heart for three nieghborhood children which she helped raise - Christian Canas, Heather Cullen, and especially Taylor Martin. They made her life filled with love and joy in her last years.
She was born in Sabinas, Hidalgo, N.L., Mexico on 31 January 1935, and later immigrated to the US seeking a better future with her husband. She took great pride in nurturing and supporting her children and providing them with the opportunity to achieve their respective educational and personal goals. In addition, she was instrumental in the lives of the neighborhood children and even their children, who continued to visit and call her Mommy to the end. She took great pleasure in growing flowers in her gardens and showed her love by cooking for her family. She had a mischievous and funny personality, often making everyone around her smile and laugh.
She was laid to rest on January 3, 2026 in San Antonio Texas at Holy Cross Cemetery with her husband in eternal rest. She was laid to rest with her constant companion - Purple monkey whom she sewed together to remain in tact and her dalmations - mother and child to keep her company. She had a beautiful rosary which was purchased at Barcelona Cathedral by her son Dr. Hector B. Rodruguez MD. A Celebration of Life was held immediately following her services at her favorite restaurant Los Barrios.
Family will receive friends at the Memorial Mass on Friday, 30 January 2026, from 11:00 AM to Noon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) Catholic Church, 16075 N Evans Rd, Selma, TX.
