With heavy hearts we share the peaceful passing of Gloria Fonseca Arnold into eternal rest on May 24, 2025, at the age of 78. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfredo and Antonia Fonseca, and brother, Arthur Fonseca. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Nolan Arnold; daughters Myla Koehne (Kenneth) and Hattie Arnold (Peter); grandchildren Isabella, Elijah and Madeline; sisters Hortencia Arnold (Stanley) and Becky Zickgraf (Dominic); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her warmth and presence. She is also survived by her faithful canine companion, Punky, who stayed by her side day and night throughout her long journey with dementia.
Gloria was born June 5, 1946, in San Antonio, TX. She was a proud graduate of Fox Tech High School (class of 1964). After graduation, Gloria began her career at Fort Sam Houston Army Base. Most of her career was spent working for the VA hospital, to include the VA in Ft. Wayne, IN and the VA in San Antonio, TX. She dedicated 41 years of civil service before retiring in 2007. While working at Ft. Sam, she met the love of her life, Nolan Raymond Arnold. Their bond and partnership grew into a beautiful marriage that lasted 56 years. They shared a once-in-a-lifetime kind of love and built a home full of faith, love, and laughter for their daughters.
Gloria loved dancing to all kinds of music and her favorites included anything from Flaco Jimenez, Little Joe y La Familia, Motown, and Classic Country. Over the years, she loved spending afternoons in the pool, playing bunco, vacations in Port A, road trips to find wildflowers in the spring, and looking at holiday lights every Christmas. She found her greatest joy and comfort in spending time with family, especially her three grandchildren. They fondly called her Yaya, and they were the light of her world. She truly cherished every moment she shared with them.
We invite you to join us honoring Gloria’s life and memory. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Puente and Sons Funeral Chapels-Northeast, 14315 Judson Road. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 11 am with a service to follow at noon. Gloria will be cremated privately.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Andrew Chapa and Amedisys Hospice, especially Claudia, Laura, Claudia, Trish and Ross. We are extremely grateful for their help and guidance for the past 6 months.
Though she is no longer with us, Gloria’s love, strength, and resilience will live on in those who loved her. Her presence is greatly missed, her laughter always remembered, and she will be loved forever.
Rest in peace Fufu, Mom, Yaya. You fought the good fight, and you are now home. We know you are dancing in the heavens. Until we meet again.
John 11:25-26
Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die.”
