George Franklin McNiel

George Franklin McNiel, a true "country boy" at heart, passed away on July 24, 2025, just five days before his 69th birthday. Born in San Antonio on July 29, 1956, George lived a life with a great sense of humor and an even greater sense of kindness. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and unwavering support.

A proud veteran, George attended Southside High School before serving his country in the United States Air Force, a journey that took him to various places like Alaska, the Panama Canal, and Florida. He was a master of many trades and our family's go-to guy for fixing anything—from wiring electronics, to rigging the car, to home repairs. After his time in the service, he settled on the Texas coast, where he worked in maintenance at various resorts and hotels in Port Aransas, Rockport, and Corpus Christi.

More than his skills, George will be remembered for his big heart. He never took life too seriously and was a master jokester and the king of sarcasm, always striving to make others smile, especially in awkward, tough times. He had a genuine concern for others and was one of the few people who never passed judgment. He really loved his music, from country to rock- he was always listening to something different, and was even teaching himself to play the bass guitar. His other passions included old-timey cars, playing bingo, Big Red, and bacon. To his grandchildren—Cielo, Nicholas, Drake, Stanton, and Payton—he was known as "Papaw," a title he cherished deeply.

George is reunited in death with his wife, Pamela Ann Bandy McNiel; his parents, Alva Alexander McNiel and Ivabell "Mac" Robinson McNiel; his brother, Leroy William McNiel; his sister, Alva Alexandria "Sandy" Youmans; and his niece, Chasity Nichol McNiel. He is survived by his beloved children, Brandon, Jenae, and Christina; his brother, Rex Allen; his sisters, Charlotte and Kelly Jo; his grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews, Megan, Regina, Robin, and Chad.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the healthcare professionals at Methodist, PAM Specialty Hospital, the University of Texas, and Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in George's honor.
