Listen to Obituary

Gary Lynn Hudgins, born on March 30, 1944, in Plainview, Texas, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Sunday, May 10, 2026, at his longtime San Antonio residence. In those quiet hours, he departed the home he prepared for his family on earth to, along with God, prepare a place for them in heaven. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, devotion, and an extraordinary spirit that touched all who knew him.

A man of remarkable discipline, Gary dedicated nearly 40 years to his career as a court reporter, a profession defined by the same precision and quiet wisdom he brought to every aspect of his life.

His vibrant spirit was fueled by a lifelong passion for God, family, friends, sports, music, movies, and his country. A master storyteller, Gary was just as happy being captivated by a film as he was making a room erupt in laughter. A gifted athlete in his youth, he later mentored young people through coaching, instilling the values of sportsmanship, perseverance, and hard work. When not on the sidelines or in the dugout, he was a devoted fan of his hometown San Antonio Spurs. Above all, he cherished his faith and the joy of travels to the beach and various locations throughout the U.S.A., and family visits to Plainview, where his sense of adventure and connection to his roots truly shined.

Gary was a true legend with a heart of gold who effortlessly became the life of every room. Whether he was acting as the family’s favorite jokester, a legendary prankster, or the undisputed arm-wrestling champion of the household, he was a constant source of joy for his family, friends, co-workers, and even strangers. He possessed a rare gift for uplifting others, bringing bright rays of light to the dreariest of days and connecting with people from all walks of life. Through his boundless kindness and generosity, he ensured that the lives of those he loved were forever defined by care, selflessness, gratitude, laughter, learning, and adventure.

Above all else, Gary cherished his family. His patient nature was the bedrock of his home, and his family remains eternally thankful for every second spent with him. Their hearts are filled with so many cherished memories that the written pages would stretch from here to the other side of the world.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Edna. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy; his children, Kelly and her husband John, Kristi and her husband Ronnie, and Mark and his wife Liz; and his sisters, Barbara and her husband Frank, and Shirley and her husband Eddy. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jenna, Jay, and Daegan, and his great-grandchild, Zoe, all of whom will carry forward his memory with love and gratitude.

Gary’s presence will be deeply missed, but his family finds comfort in the knowledge that he is waiting for them on the porch of the next life. His memory will remain a blessing, and his legacy will live on daily in the hearts and thoughts of those he inspired.
