Flora (Lora) Carey was born as Flora McDonald-Gibb Baker on November 16, 1941, to Frank William Hammond Baker and Mary Harvey Baker in Glasgow, Scotland. Lora was an only child and the family later moved to Suffolk, England.
Lora gave birth to her only son, Darrell Lee Glover, while married to her first husband, Fred Glover, while they resided in England. Lora and Darrell then became naturalized American citizens on March 2, 1966, after the family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas.
She married a second time while residing at Homestead, Florida, to Paul Carey. The family then moved to Universal City where she and Paul bought the house on Madrid Dr in February, 1987. She and Paul later divorced. She resided at that house until her health concerns forced her to move to Brookdale Dementia Care Center, February 23, 2024, and then moved to Broadway Rehabilitation and Care Center April 15, 2024. She resided here until her passing on June 14, 2025.
Lora worked as a Customer Service Representative at Southwestern Bell Telephone in San Antonio, which through many legislative changes became AT&T. She retired in 2000 after 28 years of service.
After her retirement, Lora volunteered at the Universal City Library for several years until the COVID pandemic struck and the library shut down for a while. Lora never went back to volunteer work, due to her health concerns and the fact that she couldn't drive anymore. She also knitted and crocheted a bit. She liked solving crossword puzzles and word search puzzles to keep her mind sharp.
Everyone that knew Lora, knew she had a deep passion for her Yorkies, the last of which, Rosie, passed in December, 2022. She would take her puppies to the dog park near the house to run and play, or for walks in the neighborhood until her knee caused her too much pain.
Lora was a loving person, and kind-hearted to all her friends. She will always be remembered as our "Brit" friend. Lora is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Darrell.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lora's memory to the Universal City Animal Care & Control Center, 134 Athenian, Universal City, TX 78148.
