Ernesto O Perez, born on December 20, 1940, in San Antonio, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, in his beloved hometown.
Ernesto’s life was one deeply rooted in family, enduring love, and cherished connections. He was a son of Abdon Perez and Aurora Ortega, from whom he inherited the values of kindness, resilience, and dedication that would shape his journey. Ernesto’s story is woven through the fabric of San Antonio, the city where he both began and fulfilled his life.
Ernesto is survived by his devoted wife, Estela Avina, who stood by his side as his confidante and companion. He embraced and cared for his family with warmth, including his step-son, Anthony Avina, and step-daughter, Shelly G. Franco. His daughter, Gloria Villareal, holds close the lessons and love he shared so freely.
The bond of siblings played an integral role for Ernesto. He is remembered fondly by his brothers, Antonio "Tony" Perez (Sylvia Perez) and Luis Perez (Minnie Ybarra), as well as his sisters, Lydia Limon and Elvira Orozco (Rudy Orozco). The Perez family legacy continues through several grandchildren and great grandchildren, each carrying a piece of Ernesto’s spirit into the future.
Ernesto also mourned the loss of close family members preceding him in death: his dear sister, Anita Vanderlinden, and his cherished sons, Jessie Ray Perez and Johnny Joe Perez. He was guided in life by the memory of his late parents, Abdon Perez and Aurora Ortega.
Throughout his years, Ernesto touched the lives of those around him, creating memories that will long be treasured. Friends and family recall a man who approached life with steadfastness, humility, and love for his community. His laughter, wisdom, and compassion will be deeply missed.
To honor Ernesto’s life, a visitation will be held on July 8, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a prayer service from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Friendship Center Church, located at 217 Pleasanton Road, San Antonio, TX 78214. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Ernesto are invited to gather in remembrance, reflection, and celebration of his remarkable life.
Ernesto O Perez leaves behind a legacy of love and togetherness. Though he has departed, his memory will continue to inspire and guide all those who had the privilege to know him.
