Els was an extraordinary woman whose life reflected strength, intelligence, resilience, creativity, and an unwavering devotion to family.
Born in Amsterdam, Holland, she survived the hardships of World War II and childhood starvation. As a devoted military spouse in an interracial marriage, she navigated the challenges of the Civil Rights era with remarkable courage and grace.
A dedicated civil servant, Els retired as a Supervisory Budget Analyst. Gifted with an exceptional mathematical mind, she was proficient in computer systems and Excel spreadsheets and enjoyed sharing her knowledge through tutoring. Her talents extended far beyond her professional accomplishments. She was an avid tennis player, bowler, and spirited competitor in pinochle and spades. An accomplished artist and seamstress, she enjoyed drawing, watercolor painting, crocheting, knitting, and sewing, even helping create her granddaughter's wedding dress
.Above all, Els was a remarkable mother whose wisdom, creativity, athleticism, humor, and extraordinary intellect became a lasting legacy passed down through her family.
Els was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph T. Lewis, Sr., her twin sister, her older sister, her grandson, several brothers-in-law, and a sister-in-law.
She leaves to cherish her memory her 5 children, a devoted daughter-in-law, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many cherished friends.

Forever loved, deeply missed, and eternally remembered.
