David Edward Whitehead

David Whitehead, 70, of San Antonio, TX passed away on July 23, 2017. He was born in Jerseyville, IL on December 6, 1946. He graduated from Jerseyville High School in 1964. He continued his education at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. After receiving his degree, he joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, and Ft. Sam Houston, TX. It was during this time he earned his advanced degrees: an Undergraduate degree in Nursing from the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND, and his Graduate degree in Healthcare Management from Webster College in San Antonio TX. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked as the Assistant Director of Nursing at Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital in San Antonio TX, Assistant Administer and Director of Nursing at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND, and then returned to his vocation and ministry nursing at several San Antonio medical centers until his retirement in December 2012.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jackie and Blanche Whitehead, his younger brother Jackie Whitehead Jr., all of Roodhouse, IL, and his son-in-law Patrick Cano of San Antonio, TX. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara of San Antonio, TX. His four children Chris and husband Arlen Fitterer of Cerritos, CA, Catherine Cano, Brian Whitehead, and Amy Whitehead all of San Antonio TX. His nine grandchildren: Jason Cano, David and wife Anastasia Cano, Katrina Cano all San Antonio TX, Jacob Fitterer, Rachael Fitterer, both of Cerritos, CA, Austin Wheeler, Zachary Wheeler of San Antonio, TX, and Kodie Crockett and Payton Whitehead of Lanett, AL. One great-grandson, Thomas Cano of San Anonio TX. He is also survived by his sisters Theresa Hammon of Jacksonville, IL and Sue and her husband Brad Rowell of Helena, MT.
