Carmelo Vegerano, born on July 12, 1947, in Vieques, Puerto Rico, passed away on August 8, 2026. Carmelo proudly served 22 years in the U.S. Army and is a Vietnam War veteran. During his military service, he became a Physician’s Assistant and retired with the rank of Captain. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his bride of 50 years, Juana Vegerano; his mother, Dolores Caraballo, his brother, Juan Castro; and David Caraballo. He is survived by his daughter, Yanira V. Cruz; his son, Luis C. Vegerano; and his wife, Sarah Vegerano. Carmelo’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Evelyn P. Cruz, Zarek H. Cruz, Carmela D. Vegerano, Lyndon H. Vegerano, and Ofelia M. Vegerano. He is also survived by his siblings: Samuel Caraballo, Maricela Caraballo, Ruth Caraballo, and Eliezer Caraballo, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Carmelo will be remembered for his generosity and unwavering love for his family. By far his proudest moments were those he shared with his five grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of love and great pride in his Puerto Rican heritage.
