Betty Jean Ortiz

April 14, 1968 — May 9, 2025

San Antonio, Texas

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Betty Jean Ortiz—known as “Bonnie”—who went to be with the Lord on May 9, 2025, in her hometown of San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 57.

Born on April 14, 1968, to Dora Ann Rios and Johnny Abel Ortiz, Bonnie was a proud San Antonio native who carried a spirit as bold and beautiful as the city she loved. She was known for her infectious, loud laugh—you could hear from far away, and it had a way of lighting up the whole room. Her free spirit and joyful presence made a lasting impact on everyone she met.

Bonnie’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a wife to Steven Asevedo, a loving mother to four children: Michelle Ortiz, Edward Asevedo, Victoria Asevedo, and Nicole Asevedo, and a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren: Mark, Ariel, Adrian, Larry III (deceased), Benjamin, Matthew, Arianna, Elizabeth, Jeremiah, Adalynn, and Payton- who were truly the light of her life. She is also survived by her siblings: Debbie Ortiz, Virginia Lira, and Gilbert Trinidad, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Dora Rios; father, Johnny Ortiz; grandmother, Virginia B. Rios; and her precious grandson, Larry Wayne Ebner III. Though our hearts are broken, we find peace in knowing she is reunited with those she loved, held safely in God’s arms.

Bonnie’s legacy of love, laughter, and strength will forever live on in those who knew her. She will be remembered not only for her deep devotion to her family, but for the joy she radiated and the laughter that echoed wherever she went.
