Her life was shaped by deep connections with family and friends, who cherished her open spirit and unwavering support.
Ashley Renee Hughes, beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend, left this world on August 8, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on October 7, 1990, in Skokie, Illinois, beginning a journey filled with laughter, compassion, and determined ambition.
When thinking of Ashley, those who knew her are struck by the brilliance and gentleness she brought into any space. She was blessed with a kind heart and a sharp mind, her sense of humor was infectious, and her passions burned bright for what she loved and believed in. These virtues, simple to name yet rare to see so fully realized in one individual, leave a lasting glow in the lives she touched.
Education was both a calling and a triumph for Ashley. She attended UTSA, earning both her associate's and bachelor’s degrees in Psychology. Ashley’s dedication led her to the President’s List and to graduate Summa Cum Laude, a testament to her perseverance, intellect, and innate curiosity. Education was never just an achievement but a reflection of her drive to understand, to empathize, and to lift up those around her.
Yet, above all her accomplishments, Ashley’s heart was most full with her son, Zackery, the center and proudest achievement of her life. In every conversation, every hope cast toward the future, Zackery was the shining source of her greatest pride, joy, and purpose.
Her life was shaped by deep connections with family and friends, who cherished her open spirit and unwavering support. Ashley is survived by her loving mother, Kelly Harris-Hughes, and devoted dad, Blas Ynocencio. Her beloved son, Zackery Greene, stands as a living legacy of her love and nurturing soul. The bonds of sisterhood and brotherhood tied Ashley to Sarha Hughes, Robert Martinez, Adrianna Martinez, Dennis Quinones, Daniel Quinones, Daniella Quinones, and Denika Quinones. Her grandmother, Betty Broehl, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends share in the remembrance of Ashley, carrying forward her laughter and kindness.
Ashley follows in peaceful rest those who went before her: her father, John D. Hughes; her grandfathers, Harold Harris and Roderick Hughes; her grandmother, Cynthia Hauser; and her cousin, Micheal (Mikey) Harris. The love they shared and their cherished memories now compound the legacy she has left behind.
Ashley’s vivacious spirit will echo through stories told at family gatherings, the warmth in her family’s embrace, and the gentle strength she modelled for all. She was remarkable: a woman whose joy, humor, and intelligence drew others close, and whose empathy and generosity made each person feel especially seen and valued.
A visitation to honor Ashley Renee Hughes will be held on August 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at South - Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels, 3520 S Flores St, San Antonio, TX. A celebration of her life will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral procession at 12:00 p.m. with an escort to the cemetery by Mission City Motorcycle Police Escorts. Interment will occur at 1:00 p.m. at the Unbroken Circle Green Cemetery, 11045 Fowler Rd., Atascosa, TX.
Though Ashley’s time with us was far too brief, her legacy, woven from humor, wisdom, kindness, and unfaltering love, will endure. Those who love her will find her in each other’s laughter, in acts of compassion, and in the bonds she helped forge and strengthen.
