Antonio Barrera Sr.

January 17, 1944 — July 3, 2025

In Loving Memory

Antonio “Tony” Barrera Sr., 81, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, in his beloved hometown of San Antonio, Texas. A proud Tejano through and through, Tony was a loving father who joyfully spoiled his kids, a hardworking man with a bold presence, a sharp dresser, with a heart as big as Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his beloved wife Remigia Barrera, and his youngest son, Antonio “Tony Jr.” Barrera Jr., who passed away during the COVID pandemic on July 27, 2020. In a touching reunion, Tony Jr.’s ashes will be laid to rest alongside his father and mother — together again, forever.

He is survived by his daughters, Linda Wiseman and Elizabeth “Liz” Barrera; his grandchildren, Sonia Miranda and Xavier Jesse Salazar; and his great-granddaughter, Mei Lin. He also leaves behind his cherished sister, Dora Gonzalez, along with a big extended family of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and lifelong friends whose lives he touched deeply.

Born and raised in San Antonio, Tony dedicated over 26 years of service to the City of San Antonio as a maintenance worker. He took pride in his work and never met a stranger. He was known for his booming laughter, love of fishing, pool games, lottery scratch-offs, classic corridos and norteñas, dad jokes and an ice-cold Bud Light in hand.

His passing may very well leave a dent in Anheuser-Busch profits.

Tony’s charm, grit, and charisma were unforgettable. His famous sayings — like “Hey, Horsefly!” and “I ain’t here for a long time, I’m here for a good time!”— will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
