Antonio (Tony) Regist Sr, a beloved reverend of the Episcopal Church, passed away on December 17, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on October 31, 1954, in Ancon, Panama (former U.S. Canal Zone), Antonio dedicated his life to serving the Lord and uplifting others through faith and community service.
A lifelong Episcopalian, his faith guided a lifetime of service as an acolyte, youth leader, lay minister, and church leader before answering the call to ordained ministry. Tony was educated in the Canal Zone and earned degrees in electrical engineering technology, business management, and theology, including a Master of Divinity. He also completed a clinical chaplaincy at VA hospitals and became a Certified Clinical Member of ACPE. Before ordination, he had a distinguished career as a marine engineer and federal employee, becoming the first Black chief engineer of the U.S. Dredge Mindi and the first Black port representative for District No. 1 of the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association. Ordained a deacon in 2000, Rev. Regist served congregations in Panama and later in Texas, including Santa Fe, St. Margaret’s, and St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, where he was interim rector. He was widely known for founding the La Posada Campus Ministry program, organizing the New Artemisia Bowden UBE Diocesan Chapter, and for his scholarly work on ministry to Hispanic communities within the Episcopal Church.
Reverend Antonio (Tony) Regist took great pride in his family and in his community contributions. He is survived by his beloved brother, Fermin Regist; sister, Barbara Chandler; and his cherished nieces and nephews: Ronald Jr., John Patrick Hutchinson, Fermin Jr., Ashley, Anisa, Randy, Angel, Angelina, and Michael. He also leaves behind his devoted adult children Tony Jr., Annette, and Patrick who honor his legacy and carry forward his mission of faith, service, and love.
Reverend Tony’s life and legacy will be remembered fondly by his family and by all those whose lives he touched through his unwavering commitment to faith, compassion, and community service.
