Antonette Salas-Mendoza, lovingly known as Tonia, passed away on September 1, 2026, in San Antonio Texas. She was born on December 5, 1932, in Oplin, Texas. She will be remembered with deep love by all who knew her.

Tonia lived a life centered on work, care, and family. She worked as a seamstress, bringing dedication and skill to her craft. She also served as a foster grandparent at Santa Rosa Children's Hospital, a role that reflected her generous heart and her love of working with children. Caring for others was a defining part of her life, and she especially loved caring for her grandchildren.

Her family was the heart of her life. She is survived by her children, Esmeralda Hernandez and her husband Lupe Hernandez, Gregorio Mendoza, Anthony Mendoza and his wife Maryann Mendoza, Marie Mendoza, Mike Mendoza, Michelle Martinez and her husband Juan Manuel Martinez and her stepsons Domingo Tobar Jr, Lino Tobar and Cristobal Tobar. The family they share together was a treasured part of Tonia’s life, and her love and devotion to them remained constant through the years. She leaves behind a family who will continue to cherish her memory, hold close the example of her kindness and remember the warmth and care she gave so freely.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Domingo Tobar Sr.; her daughter, Gilda Mendoza; her father, Julio Salas; her mother, Valentina Salas; her sister Olga Salas and her brothers, Emilo Salas, Cirildo Salas, Ernesto Salas, and Rudolfo Salas.
