Abel Molina Garza

Abel Molina Garza was born in St. Paul, Texas on December 15, 1929 and passed on January 14, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Bertha Alicia, his parents Jose Maria and Theresa Molina Garza, his son David Garza, his brother Louis (his wife Irene), and his sister Elisa (her husband Juan) Hernandez.

He is survived by his children, Jane Phelan, Richard Garza, Laura Shirling, Charles Garza, and Edward Garza as well as 21 grandchildren, Abel’s nieces and nephews  Patty Murnin, Irma Flores, Lizzie Ortiz, Albert Hernandez, Michael, David and Louis Garza and 23 great-grandchildren.  

Notable contributions in his life was serving the United States Army Air Force  at Lowry Air Field, Colorado in the late 1940’s, was a lector  at  St Cecilia’s Parish in Mt Prospect, Illinois, and was a long time employee of Warner Lambert in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. A devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago  Bears, he especially enjoyed watching the sport of boxing.

After  retirement, he became an ardent gardener, a daily provider of bird feed, and a regular walker in his Arlington Heights, Illinois neighborhood. After a move to San Antonio, Texas, he was a caregiver to his wife Bertha in assisted living homes prior to her death in 2018  and a devotee of St. Padre Pio.
