William Clements Joyner Jr

September 18, 1937 — June 1, 2022

William Joyner was born on September 18th, 1937, in Forest, Mississippi to Mr. William Joyner, Sr. and
Christine Chambers Joyner. As a child, Bill’s father was stationed in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941,
when the Japanese launched their attack. It was one of his first childhood memories. After completing
Forest High School, Bill joined the National Guard and was then called to duty in the Army. He served in
the Battery B 526th AAA Missile Battalion. He was recognized for his skill and was called to teach missile
guidance at West Point Academy. After his military service, Bill attended East Central Community
College in Mississippi. At ECJC, was named Mr. ECJC; President of the Student Body Association; and
was entered in the East Central Junior College Hall of Fame.
Bill moved to San Antonio to join the Border Patrol, however fate had different plans. He began work
with San Antonio’s largest swimming pool company, Gary Pools. He worked there for twenty years and
retired as Vice President. He opened his own company, Utopia Pools and worked there until his
retirement. He was a leader in his industry, serving as a board member and then President of the local
chapter of the National Spa and Pool Institute (NSPI).
In his spare time, he a longtime coach and Chairman of the Board of the Northwest YMCA.
Bill is survived by his wife, Carolyn D. Lee. Children Cindy Joyner, Kip Joyner, and Gerald Lee.
Grandchildren Will Joyner, Bo Lee, Hunter Lee, Kara Lee, BJ Barrett, Brandon and Lachae Jones. Brothers
Danny Vaughn and Mike Vaughn and Donna Harris, sister Susan Noblin, her husband Ronnie Noblin. Great grandchildren
Devin Jones and Brylee Jones, nieces and nephews Adam Vaughn, Matt Vaughn, Tia Vaughn, Jacob
Vaughn, Niki Noblin, Keri Noblin Huffstetler, and Cobi Noblin.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 17th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. and a Celebration of Life and Memorial Service
will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Puente & Sons, 14315 Judson Road, San Antonio, TX 78233. A
funeral service will be held on Monday, July 18th at 1:15 p.m. at Ft. San Houston National Cemetery,
Shelter 2, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209
