Vincent Lee Johnson

August 17, 1957 — June 21, 2018

Vincent Lee Johnson was a life-long entrepreneur and dedicated family man whose warmth and humor filled every room he entered. He passed away the morning of June 21 at his home in San Antonio, Texas. He was 60 years old. A San Antonio native, Lee spent 30 years in the litigation software industry where he established a reputation as a reliable, hardworking, and brilliant innovator. He frequently saw trends before they emerged and established the first bayesian search company in the legal space. Last year, he co-founded, along with his brother and son, AutoThink, an automotive technology company that currently employs a dozen people.

Despite decades of marketing innovation, the one thing he never advertised was his tremendous charitable acts. Both in his work and personal life, Lee showed a passion for helping others, assisting countless nephews, nieces, grandchildren, coworkers, family friends, and strangers with everything from college tuition to swimming lessons to buying a business suit for an employee in need. His deeds of kindness, always unsung, were nonetheless felt profoundly by those whose lives they changed for the better.

A loving husband to Barbara Johnson (m. 1991), Lee spent his days making her laugh, caring for her dogs, and cooking his famously elaborate cuisine.
Over the past year Johnson was blessed with his first grandson, Ellis Dean Fernandez-Johnson (b. 2017), who enriched his life and provided him with a clear sense of continuity in his final months.

Lee was the father of two sons, Ryan Johnson, 37, President of AutoThink and Adam Johnson, 34, a writer. While they often sparred on matters of politics, the three had a unique bond and spoke daily. Lee is remembered for providing guidance and support to his sons, frequently serving as a sounding board and moral compass well into adulthood. A vivacious storyteller, Lee loved cooking, entertaining friends and - above all - fishing. Frequently taking his nephews, nieces, and family friends on their first fishing expeditions, Lee believed a trip out to sea was an opportunity to reflect and talk without the distraction of a screen. Lee was preceded in death by his father Harry Hubbard Johnson Jr. (d. 1981), his mother Sandra Melarvie Ward (d. 2016), and his nephew Harry Hubbard Johnson IV (d. 2014).

Lee is survived by two sisters, Kelly Andreas and Kim Johnson, older brother, Harry Hubbard Johnson III, nephews and nieces--to whom he was "the best uncle in the world"-- Garrett, John David, Michael A., Melissa, Alicia, Michelle, Julianna, Violet, Holli, Josh, Scott, Laura, Leanne, Greg Jr., Michael M., Traci, Mallory, Kelly, Jenni, sons Adam and Ryan Johnson, daughter-in- law Michelle Fernandez- Johnson, and good friend Michael Mollett. Johnson's first wife and mother to his children, Lucinda Mollett, passed in 2008.
