Vern Lewis Hulbert II died of complications brought on by Covid-19 in December 2020. He is now at home with his Heavenly Father.

A gentle, kind man, who loved and trusted God throughout his life, Vern served others humbly, generously, and graciously, and always believed the best of people. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Vern was born in San Antonio, Texas December 1953 to Vern and Sue Hulbert. One of four children, he grew up in San Antonio. He graduated from University of Texas in Austin with a Bachelor's in Accounting and received his Masters from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Aeronautical Science.

Vern not only served his country in the Air Force, but spent time serving his community as a school teacher and as a positive father figure to many. Vern was always providing and caring for his wife, children, grandchildren and anyone in the family that needed him. Even though his plate was always full, he was never too busy to help anyone.

He spent the last 13 years of his life in his home in San Antonio, TX where he, his wife, daughter and four grandchildren built a peaceful getaway which they graceously shared with family and friends. He and his wife were members of First Baptist Church Universal City. Where they both have enjoyed singing in the Choir and participating in other church events.

Vern and his wife, Ricia Hulbert, were High School sweethearts. They married in 1974. They raised their two children in an atmoshpere of love, in multiple homes around the world. He is preceded in death by his father Vern Hulbert. In addition to his wife Ricia Hulbert, he is survived by his mother Sue Hulbert of San Antonio, TX, a brother Victor Hulbert of San Antonio, TX, sisters Valerie Ratneyaka of San Antonio, TX, and Veda Chalmers of Tracy, MN; his son Christian Hulbert of Florida-Georgia Line, daughter Sage Rylind of San Antonio, TX; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Services will be held at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1 PM Tuesday January 5, 2021; 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78209, Gazebo 1; due to the pandemic restrictions only close family and friends will be attending. In place of flowers please donate to Autism Speaks in honor of Vern.
