Usaf Ret. Major Lothar (Lo) William Deil

USAF Ret. Major Lothar (Lo) William Deil passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012 in San Antonio, TX after a battle with cancer at the age of 60. He was born June 15, 1952 in Caracas, Venezuela to V. Walter and Ingeborg Deil. He and his family moved to Toronto, Canada in 1957 then in 1960 they moved to California where he became a US citizen after two years. He finally settled in Santa Rosa, CA where he graduated from Montgomery High School in 1970. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy June 2, 1976 with a B.S. in Astronautical Engineering. He married Carol Stroup on June 4, 1976 at the United States Air Force Academy. After graduation from the USAFA he attended Pilot training at Vance AFB, Enid, OK and went on to fly B-52s at Fairchild AFB, Spokane, WA. He was a project manager for the SAC Headquarters, Offutt AFB, Bellevue, NE. He retired from the AF in 1993. He was CIO at ProWest in Seattle, WA. After 9/11 Lo was eager to return to serving his country. He joined the 453d Electronic Warfare Squadron in December 2001 and led the development of Electronic Warfare tools. He was the recipient of numerous awards. Among them, he was twice awarded USAF Meritorious Service Medal, Civilian of the Year - Senior Level 2005, USAF Outstanding Engineer Senior Civilian 2007 and Association of Old Crows Distinguished Service Award 2012. He loved his family and many friends. He is survived by his loving wife Carol (Stroup) Deil; daughter, Leslie (Deil) Beale; her husband, Joseph Beale and son, Adam Deil; granddaughter, Caroline Beale; his parents, V. Walter Deil and Ingeborg (Gerlach) Deil; sister, Angelica (Deil) Franklin; and brother, Richard Deil.

Lo would have loved people to support a charity of their choice, St Andrew Lutheran Church or Hero Miles for the Fisher House, Ft Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX.

Lo always enjoyed a good party, so services will be at St Andrew Lutheran Church Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 7:00 pm to celebrate his life.
