Saphan Martinez

April 17, 1963 — May 20, 2018

Saphan, or “Saphy” was born in Coney Island, NY (Brooklyn) on April 17 1963 and died May 20 2018 in San Antonio, Texas where he called home for the past 27 years. Saphan lived his life to the fullness. He attended schools of hard work, and as a technical engineer he could fix anything with his labored hands. He never missed a beat of getting “stuff” accomplished. We often say that the hour of death cannot be forecast. When we say this we imagine this hour would be a distant future. We never thought we would be thinking about Saphy as a memory, so soon, so unexpected.

Saphan had many precious characteristics: He had an amazing sense of humor, funny, charming, generous and a loving-teddy bear. He had an unique eye for antiques, and his “green thumb” bloomed many plants and flowers. Saphy knew just how to poke, mock, instigate those worldly events, and would have thought-provoking conversations for what he believed. Saphan was very respectful, suffered in silence, and yearned to be loved by all he touched. Saphy was a remarkable person!

Saphan is a Hebrew name in the Old Testament; he was a high priest scribe to King Josiah (2 Kings 22:1-20). His name has a parallel in biblical times to his persona: paneled, covered, storehouse, treasures, and reserved.

General George S. Patton, Jr once said “It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.”

In celebrating Saphan’s life we say thank-YOU… you will NEVER be forgotten! With Love, family, nieces and nephews, friends, and co-workers.

Saphy will be interred in Puerto Rico. Please direct all flowers to :
