Rene Silvas

July 25, 1956 — June 23, 2018

Rene was born and raised in San Antonio, however, he grew up as an Air Force kid. The last of six children he received the best foundation for his future from his parents: reading at age 2-3 years. For Rene reading was like breathing, he loved books. He graduated from Burbank HS class of 1974 then completed one year as a volunteer in a medical technology clinic. He entered and completed the two year Medical Technology program at St. Philip's College. His first employment was with the Downtown Baptist Hospital Laboratory where he worked from 1986 - 2007 (27 years) and where Rene experienced a wide range of learning opportunities. In June 2005, Rene started working at Methodist TexSan Hospital. In 2002, he met and married Jenny Evans. After a 10 year marriage, Rene lost Jenny in April 2012 due to complications from a long term illness. Rene was also preceded in death by his Mother, Carlota (2012), his Father, John (2017), and his brothers Tomas and Elias. He is survived by his brother, Richard "Rico" and his sister, Carol along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Rene was a multi-talented person; well known for his signature long hair and dark glasses. Yes, he was a "Rocker". He loved hard Rock and Roll. He was known for his Rock themed black t-shirts. Other interests Rene had include his knowledge of miniature airplanes, fish and aquariums, birds including types and their diets, German Shephard dogs and cat populations. He read consistently about Roman history and the lands they conquered throughout the world. World War II was another historical area of interest, especially the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

The family thanks the administration and especially the Methodist TexSan Laboratory staff for conducting a memorial service recounting their thoughts, poems and memories of Rene with us. Our Family will hold that treasure in our hearts.

He was here less than expected and he left quietly. We will miss him dearly. The family requests donations to animal rescue organizations in lieu of flowers.

A memorial service will be held on July 18, 2018 at the Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel at 1:30
PM located at 17501 Nacogdoches Road, San Antonio, Texas 78266.
