Mary Sue Nicholson

June 27, 1935 — August 3, 2019

Mary Sue Nicholson passed away peacefully from this life into the arms of the Lord on the morning of August 3rd after a long, hard-fought battle with Dementia. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers Syndi and Brandy throughout the last months of her life.
Mary Sue is survived by her daughters Marilyn Smith (Jay) and Kathy Nicholson; granddaughters Stacy Sievers and Shelly Kueter (Drew); great grandson Logan Sievers; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis “Nick” Nicholson; mother Augusta Bell; and father Ernest Bell.
Mary Sue was born on June 27, 1935 in San Antonio, TX. She graduated from St. Henry’s Catholic School in 1951 where she was drum major her senior year and then attended San Antonio College. She married Nick who was the love of her life on June 18, 1955. They shared 43 wonderful years together until his passing in 1998. Mary Sue and Nick loved to bowl, fish, and take trips to Las Vegas. On one of their Vegas trips, she won $10K in a blackjack tournament. Mary Sue was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt who loved sewing, crocheting, watching Dallas Cowboy games, and baking her famous cookies which everyone always highly anticipated at Christmas time. In recent years, she loved going to Retama Park where she had a knack for picking the winners only by name and visiting the San Antonio Zoo where she loved feeding the giraffes.
A Memorial Service in Mary Sue’s honor will be held on Friday, August 16th at 3:00 PM at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1602 Thousand Oaks Drive, San Antonio, TX 78232. A celebration of her life will immediately follow in the church hall. Mary Sue loved collecting toys year round so she could donate them at Christmas. She never wanted a child to go without a toy. So in lieu of flowers, the family is asking guests to please bring a new, unwrapped toy to her service for donation, or make a donation to Toys for Tots or a children’s charity of your choice.
