Maria Martha Hurley

Maria Martha (Niño) Hurley, age 83, peacefully departed this world on July 19, 2021. She was born in Piedras Negras, Mexico, on October 30, 1937, but she resided in San Antonio most of her life. She will truly be missed by her family, friends, and loved ones.

Martha took great pride in a successful career as a bookkeeper and accountant for many years, and she loved being Mom to her four children and "Nanita" to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed dancing, baseball, painting, and tending to her plants at her home. Martha was the rock of the family, and she provided loving yet straightforward guidance, wisdom, and advice to all.

She is survived by her sister Norma Niño of Washington state; her children — daughter Maggie Garcia and son-in-law Johnny Vela Sr. of Seguin, daughter Brenda Dollar and son-in-law Brent Dollar of Austin, daughter JoAnn Villarreal of San Antonio, and son Roland De Leon of Austin; Grandchildren — Denise Beckwith, Joe Mitchell De Leon, Zachary Dollar, Raul Garcia, Jessica Rodriguez-Mullins, Ashley Vela, Gabriel Vela, and Johnny Vela Jr.; And great-grandchildren — Grace Garcia, Hailyn Garcia, Issac Garcia, Trinity Garcia, Baylee Luna, Devyn Luna, Jazlyn Mendez, Jordan Mendez, Ethan Mullins, Jaden Mullins, Caleb Vela, and Everly Vela.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents Joséfa and Guadalupe Niño; brother Pete Niño, grandson Leroy Garcia, and great-granddaughter Kaia Josephine Mullins.

A celebration of Martha’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, at Puente & Sons Funeral Home, 3520 S. Flores Street, San Antonio, TX, 78204.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made in Martha’s name to the Dementia Society of America , a non-profit charity with a mission to enhance the quality of life for those living with Dementia, their caregivers, and the community.
