Margaret L. Murtagh

December 4, 1924 — July 18, 2022

Margaret Lena Barnes Murtagh passed away July 18,2022. She was born in McDonough, NY daughter of Harold and Elma Sherman Barnes. She graduated from Norwich High School class of 1942 followed by graduating from Binghamton City Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. Margaret went to work for Chenango Memorial Hospital as an operating room nurse.

She was married to William Thomas Murtagh in 1952. Eventually moving to Schenectady, NY and working for many years at Ellis Hospital as a staff nurse and evening nursing supervisor. Margie and Bill left New York after many years and after raising their 2 children. They moved to Florida where she became head nurse of the Newborn Nursery and Newborn ICU at Lakeland regional medical center. She retired from nursing in 1988. They remained in Lakeland for a few years before deciding to come to San Antonio, Texas to be close to family.

She is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Elma Sherman Barnes, her husband of Bill of 57 years, sister: Shirley Murtagh , brothers: Richard Barnes, Harold Barnes Jr. (Doris) and Morris Barnes (Marge) . She is survived by her daughter: Beverly of San Antonio TX, son: Robert (Chris) of Schenectady,NY; Sister in law Marilyn of Cortland NY, brother Donald of Bow NH ; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and niece, Sheryl (Randy) of London, NC.

Viewing will take place at Puente and Sons Funeral Chapels, 14315 Judson Rd., San Antonio, TX 78233

Internment will be with William, her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
