Jane S. Hurlbut

March 30, 1938 — August 16, 2017

Jane Sullinger Hurlbut passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at her home in Helotes, Texas. She was 79. Jane was born and raised in Bessemer, Alabama. She graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University class of 1959. Jane was an elementary, middle, and high school teacher and counselor. She taught in Birmingham, Alabama and , in 1972, moved to San Antonio and taught and counseled in the Northside I.S.D. She was married to Captain Herbert S. Hurlbut (U.S Navy Retired) who preceded her in death in 2001. Jane's father, District Attorney Howard H. Sullinger and her mother, Nellie Adams Sullinger, the organist for the Bessemer First Baptist Church, both predeceased Jane. Jane's passions were travelling, animals, and nature. Graveside services will be held at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10:15 AM. Family and friends are invited to attend this last farewell to a lovely and elegant lady.
