The Matriarch

Helen Díaz, the Matriarch of our family, born on September 14th, 1934 to Higinio Díaz and Luisa Toscano in San Antonio, Texas and who departed on the 21st of May, 2021 at the age of 86. She passed away so quietly, surrounded by all, young and old, that truly loved her. A Queen to the very end!

We all looked up to her, loved and admired her. Helen was a mentor to many. She had the ability to make things that she accomplished look so simple and easy (even though they really were not), she was so full of courage and power. When she set her mind on something nothing and no one could stand in her way. She definitely had style in doing so, she always stood out so beautifully. She had a strong sense of pride that could be felt even in a room full of strangers.

She was a true entrepreneur with businesses that included, restaurants, tour bus taking you to different destinations, pubs where everyone became friends, tax preparations that served so many within and outside of San Antonio over a long span of time. Using her ingenuity to create wearable art, paintings and home decor, she gifted and also sold many items which she herself designed in some of her many boutiques.

Her most loved outings were the family gatherings, being with her sister, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and family friends. She enjoyed many types of music, dancing, and great food. She had such a beautiful smile. She was always ready to get up and go! She would use the old saying, “I was born ready!”

She will be tucked deep in our hearts forever and we will always speak of her, include her in our conversations, call her name out loud, and keep her in our thoughts so she will never be far away. She left her imprint on our hearts! She will be forever loved and missed.

She is survived by her Sister Virginia Diaz-Aguilar and Brother in law Alfred Aguilar, her Daughters: Diane Gennero, Veronica Morales, and Daphne Morales, and Daughter-in-law, Velma Mayorga. Her Grandchildren: Rico and wife Elizabeth, Chris, Diamond, Jewels, Jonathon, Jade, Stone, Jocelyn, Great Grandchildren: Jordan, Giavanna, Tiger, Isaiah, Elijah, Danica, Joseph, Dante’, Jeremiah, and Emorie. Nephews: Isaac and Vincent. Nephew-in-law Robert. Nieces: Elaine and Lilly. Great nieces: Roxanne and children, Justine and children and Great nephew:Tyler.
