Glenn Jay Taylor

June 9, 1953 — May 28, 2018

Glenn Jay Taylor, a devoted Jehovah’s Witness, died on Monday, May 28, 2018 after a long battle with liver cancer. He was 64. Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, he held several jobs during his life, including chemical engineering on space shuttles as well as various clerk and dispatch positions in hospitals. He acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Southern University of New Orleans in 2001. He relocated to San Antonio after Hurricane Katrina, which has been his home for the past 13 years. He joined the Army at 17, serving two years in Vietnam before being honorably discharged. His family says his life took a marked turn when he began to study the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1981. Glenn was convinced that this was the Truth, and dedicated his life to Jehovah through baptism in June of 1982. Known for his distinctive Southern accent and way with words, his uplifting comments at the Kingdom Hall and his ability to speak sincerely with all people despite their background or status captivated everyone and earned him friends wherever he went. He possessed amazing recall and valued knowledge, often spending hours researching many topics, determined to perceive the absolute essence of the subject matter at hand. This ability allowed him to prepare informative speeches in a short period of time, which made him a valued member of his congregation. Glenn will be missed greatly by his family and fellow believers, who cherish fond memories of him and look forward to seeing him in Paradise.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 34 years, Gilda; two daughters, Vonetta and Christina; his son, Jay; six grandchildren, Michael, Glenn, Imani, Valeah, Nisha, and Nishell; a stepson, Cedric; and a host of relatives and friends.
