Fredrick Meredith Armand

January 30, 1935 — January 7, 2022

Lt. Col. (Ret) Fredrick M. Armand, husband of the late Dorothy Cort Armand, passed away at home after a brief illness. He was the proud father of his three children, Fredrick Armand, Jr (Rebecca) of Pinellas Park, FL, Karen Battersby (John) of Chambersburg, PA and Gregory Armand (Oksana) of San Antonio, TX. He was Opa to eight grandchildren, John Battersby (Stacey), Devon Fleury (Jonathan), Sarah Maldonado (Julian), Ryan Armand, Alec Armand, Avery Armand, Eric Armand and Liam Armand and two greatgranddaughters, Emma Lea and Elliot Rose.

Dad was born to Edith and Louis Armand on Killdeer Hill Farm in Petersburg, NJ. He graduated from Ocean City High School in Ocean City, NJ and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. Dad was sent to Officers Candidate School and accepted a commission. He became a WSO in charge of navigation, radar, and weapons of the F4 Phantom. His career spanned the globe from Air Defense in Alaska to Vietnam before retiring while in Washington DC (the Pentagon). After his retirement from the Air Force Dad moved back to Killdeer Hill Farm and later to San Antonio, Texas. He worked for a number of years
selling real estate before becoming a director of the Cape May County, NJ chapter of The American Red Cross. He also spent several years serving as director of the Red Cross chapter at Twenty-nine Palms, CA during Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Although his heart and soul soared above the clouds he was equally happy with his hands in the dirt. Our father would grow whatever he could in the soil where he lived. He grew crops of radishes in Arizona, pineapples in Hawaii, bushels of zucchini and tomatoes in New Jersey and was very proud of a beautiful lemon tree he planted in Texas. We will miss calling Dad to ask what this plant is or how to prune that tree. His grandchildren have memories of planting seeds and growing gardens with their Opa.

Fredrick will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with our mother, Dorothy, in the near future.
