Diana Lucille Rivas

Diana was the most loving, kind and giving woman. She dedicated her life to her family and friends. Diana approached her career at the UTSA pre-engineering program with a sense of enthusiasm and mission in assisting students achieve their dreams. Diana left us promptly at 5:00 PM Monday, October 15, 2018. It is ironic Diana chose 5:00 PM to leave us. Her colleagues can attest that she had a reputation of staying past the time everyone else left for the day and not until the job was complete. Diana would say “I need to do one more assignment to finish”.

True to herself, when Diana received the call and the offer for a higher purpose, the one we cannot refuse, she let us know her work was done here and would not be returning. This next assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family she has not seen in a long time and a life free of pain and suffering. Diana chose to leave on time no doubt because she will be organizing everything and everyone, gardening, camping, socializing, dancing and maybe playing a serious hand of poker. Diana left detailed instructions for her children to celebrate her mission here, which has now been completed.

Diana was born to the late Salvador Henry Mendoza and the late Eva Cortes Mendoza on September 28, 1959, San Antonio, Texas. She attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School, St. Gerard’s High for a short period, before graduating from Fox Tech High School, Class of 1977.

Diana is survived by her three children, Son, Gilbert Torres Jr., wife Stephanie A. Torres and grandson, Brandon Torres. Daughter, Sarah Nichole Rivas, grandson, Javien Rivas.; Son, Edward Allen Rivas, wife, Lorrice Rivas, grandchildren, Deven Rivas, Zachariah Rivas, and Avianna Rivas. Sister, Yolanda Fidelia Mendoza Cu; Brother, Salvador Henry Mendoza, Jr.; Sisters, Patricia Ann Mendoza Lefner, and Marivel Mendoza Barrera, Brother Gabriel Santos Mendoza and their respective spouses. Diana also leaves behind many relatives from the Mendoza, Cortes, Reina and Monsivais families and many loving friends.

We want to let Diana know that she did a great job and wish her a safe journey. We will remember her beautiful contagious smile, her warmth, her energy, her love for life, her commitment to her family and friends, dedication to colleagues, many of whom also became close friends. Diana worked very hard all her life, up until the very end, and we do mean to the very end! She made a positive impact on the lives of all who knew her.
