Deborah Ann Hernandez

September 28, 1971 — November 23, 2021

Deborah Ann Garza-Hernandez, 50 years old, was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas to Luis Garza and Maria Ofelia Garza on September 28, 1971. She passed away on November 23, 2021, at 10:05 pm at Northeast Methodist Hospital after fighting many illnesses. She fought long and hard, with the strength to never give up and always showing love and compassion to all those around her.

Deborah was born and raised in Brownsville, TX. She started her first job at Sam’s Club in 1987, then transferred with the company to San Antonio with her mother, father and siblings in 1991. She then went on to work for Lane Bryant for 5 years, then moved on to work for HEB for 17 years, to go on to retire from the company in 2017. She married in 2000 to Sean Hernandez and they had their amazing son John Anthony in 2002. She dedicated every ounce of energy and love she had to her son, while he battled leukemia and heart conditions in his very early years of life. She was his strong hold. When even the doctors had lost all hope and told her to say goodbye to her son, she rejected that option and nursed her son back to good health and to thrive on, even to this day. Debbie loved photography, she worked for Olan Mills for a short period of time doing what she loved. She was always taking pictures of family, friends and places she would visit. She loved nothing more than taking road trips with her son. She loved traveling to Gruene,Tx among other places and stopping at Buc-ee’s along the way! She loved all music, especially Tejano, dancing the night away, and hanging out with friends and family. She was always smiling, always making everyone around her smile and laugh with her amazing sense of humor and loved her friends and family with compassion and without judgment. Deborah dedicated her life to Jehovah through baptism on June 18, 1988. In her last days, she turned to Him for His love, kindness and forgiveness. May she remain in Jehovah’s Love and memory, until she is resurrected in paradise, with her health restored and her beautiful soul to share with us once again.

She is survived by her son, John Anthony Hernandez, her mother Maria Ofelia Garza, siblings, Luis Garza (Rita Garza), Diane Marie Garthe and Sarah Jane Garza-Hankins (Jason Hankins). Her nieces and nephews, Rebekah Nicole Valencia (Marco Valencia), Isaiah Garza, Caleb Austin Garthe, Allison Marie Garthe, Jasmine Marie Garza and Jacob Ryan Hankins.

Debbie was preceded in death by Clarissa Marie Perez (daughter) and Luis Garza (father).
