Dan A. Striplin

Dan Alfred Striplin passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the age of 74. He battled pulmonary fibrosis for many years. He recently said, “I just don’t know how to quit."

Dan was born on February 28, 1948, in Hamlin, Texas to Al & Leota Striplin.

After completing two years of high school he went on to join the Marine Corps. He served two tours in Vietnam. He was as proud to be a Marine as anyone could be. He was honored to have served our country. Baseball and cooking were a part of his everyday life. He fell in love with the game at an early age. It was a passion that he was able to share with countless friends and family over the years. He was known as the Ump Chef. When he wasn’t umpiring, he was cooking. He knew how a good meal with friends and family can be the highlight of the day. He made sure everyone knew that. He was always there when you needed him. The best days to him were certainly the ones involving Family, Friends, Marines, Baseball, Food and probably a good cigar.

He is survived by his children, Michelle Melton, Laura Prater, Al Striplin, grandchildren, Vance Striplin, Robin Gonzalez, Alex Flores, Jimmy Prater, Keely Faust and Kensington Striplin. He was preceded in death by his father Al Striplin, mother Leota Striplin, sisters Patsy and Lorraine.

The funeral service will be at Puente and Sons Funeral Chapels located at 14315 Judson Rd., San Antonio, TX 78233 on Tuesday, October 18th. Viewing begins at 9:00am, Service at 12:00pm and Fort Sam Houston Ceremony at 2:30pm. If attending Fort Sam Houston only, arrive 15 minutes early at Shelter 3.
