Carol Jean Jarvis

October 11, 1937 — March 26, 2020

Carol Jean Jarvis, also known as Ubba, was reunited with her late husband of 43 years, Thomas Albert Jarvis, on March 26, 2020, surrounded by her family.

Carol Jean McGowen, was born on October 11, 1937 to Ruby Hollingsworth McGowen (later Farrell) and Joe Otis McGowen. She was born in Cooter, Missouri and lived most of her early life there with her cousin Mary Helen
McDaniel Barger. Mary Helen and Carol were very close and more like sisters than cousins. Born just eight days apart, they invented new names for themselves, going as Bertha Bumpus and Nora Nutsy; calling each other by these nicknames for the rest of Carol's life.

Carol and her parents, later moved to Dexter, Missouri, when she was around twelve and she graduated from Dexter High School in 1956. While living in Dexter, she assisted the doctors, Jay and Bill Turner in nursing duties, even though she was never formally educated as a nurse. While living in Dexter she met the dashing young Air Force 1st Lieutenant, Tom Jarvis at a bowling alley. His pick up line was to help her improve her bowling form. The couple were married in his hometown of Winnetka, Illinois, on May 25, 1960.

Thomas was transferred from Maudlin Air Force Base, near Dexter, Missouri, to Finley Air Force Station, in North Dakota. As a small town southern belle, this was quite the culture shock. While living in North Dakota, Tom and Carol had their first two children, William Joe Jarvis and Cynthia Elaine Jarvis. They were stationed at several Air Force bases over the next decade. More children followed with Laura Colleen Jarvis Ferguson born at McCoy AFB in Orlando, Florida, and Michael Andrew Jarvis born at Warner Robbins AFB in Georgia.

Carol worked hard as a homemaker. She volunteered at her childrens' schools, helped with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and volunteered at Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed being a Red Cross Volunteer at Malcolm Grow Air Force Medical Center on Andrews AFB. Throughout her life, Carol loved collecting antiques and going to estate sales.

She is survived by her cousins, Mary Helen Barger, Jenny Lind Udouj, Jo White Childers and Patyra Ann McSwain. She is also survived by her four children, daughter-in-law Deborah Mueller Jarvis, several nieces and nephews and grandchildren, Kathleen Jarvis, Jacob Jarvis, Scott Ferguson, Haley Ferguson, Dakota Hendrick and Daniece Mueller. She is also survived by adopted daughter Lorena Zuehl, loving caregiver and adopted daughter, Lori Felix, and her adopted grandchildren, Lauren Zuehl Frazier, Amber Zuehl, and Jasmine Bolch.
